Gill Executable 1. Prerequisites for Deployment Verify that MATLAB Runtime (R2024b) is installed. If not, you can run the MATLAB Runtime installer. Download the zip file from https://www.mathworks.com/products/compiler/matlab-runtime.html Be sure to select the Windows operating system and version R2024b. Warning! This is a 4.4 GB file. Unzip the MATLAB Runtime installer. Right-click the ZIP file MATLAB_Runtime_R2024b_win64.zip and select Extract All. Double-click the file setup.exe from the extracted files to start the installer. Note: You only have to do this once on each machine you use. 2. Unzip the package you downloaded from zenodo into a clean directory. 3. The parameters are contained in the .csv file; one row contains the values used by the program. Change the parameter values as you wish. (Note: You may save this as a .xlsx file if you wish.) The default values of the parameters are listed in the last row should you wish to reset them. 4. Double-click the .exe file. You will see a splash screen reminding you of the tropics and then be asked to locate the .csv or .xlsx file containing the parameters. (Unfortunately, you have to do this each time you run the program.) The graphs containing the output should appear after a few seconds. 5. Parameter definitions: The parameters alpha, Gm, chi, chi2, delta, and k (or their Greek symbol equivalents) are described in the text book. Note that chi2 is used only in the calculation of h_m. dx and dy are the computational grid spacings; delx and dely dictate the spacing of the wind quivers, and cmp is the MATLAB colormap.
